Samsung readies its own App Store

The success of Apple’s App Store has made other companies spawn their own version of software market, including our very own Samsung. As their first step, the store has been launched in UK and is expected to be announced for other markets at the Mobile World Congress. The applications cater to the Symbian and Windows Mobile platform and there are around 1,100 applications in the catalog.
However, this move from Samsung looks unprofitable in the long term. The stores launched by the competitors caters to the OSes which were created by them while Samsung doesn’t own or have created any of them. Selling WinMo apps means there will be a competition between Samsung’s store and Microsoft’s soon-to-be-launched Skymarket.
