Samsung offers Universal Print Driver solution

Samsung today launched the Universal Print Driver (UPD) that will enable organizations to install a single driver for a number of printers across the network. UPD helps to save time, money as it can easily detect devices on the network or can be added manually. It also prepares a list of actively used printers and checks their status so as to save time by sending the print job to active printers only.
Apart from that, Samsung’s UPD solution is compatible with other brand’s printers too that uses PCL6 or PostScript.
Samsung Universal Print Driver can be downloaded from the ‘Support & downloads’ of the printer sections at Samsung.com.

The Samsung “Universal” Print Driver is anything but! I am running Windows Vista (32 bit) with a Samsung CLP-315 color printer. When I “plug and pray” the printer, Vista detects the printer and *automatically* (i.e no chance for me to select the driver on the disk) installs the UPD. THEN the UPD FLATLY REFUSES to allow me to update the driver to the Samsung one on the disk. Just so you know, the UPD does NOT work with the CLP-315. I have NO way of getting this printer to work with my computer.
In short, the UPD is more like a virus than a program. The designers have REALLY dropped the ball on this one! I’m returning the Samsung printer and probably getting a HP laser printer. At least I know THOSE will work with my computer.
