European consumers can expect cheaper refrigerators and washing machines from Samsung soon. The Korean conglomerate has announced to acquire Poland-based Amica’s refrigerator and washing machine manufacturing facility for US$76 million.

Earlier, appliance products sold in Europe were supplied from China and other Asian countries but with the recent acquisition, Samsung can greatly reduce the supply chain lead duration (which is currently more than four weeks) and distribution costs, effectively bringing the product cost down.

Samsung also plans to produce side-by-side refrigerators and higher-capacity drum washing machine at the new facility.
