Samsung’s aging Star phone has got a new lease of life with the addition of TV viewing feature. No it’s not the DMB that the Koreans are used to get in almost every phone but an analog mobile TV receiver where consumers can enjoy free-to-air TV channels. The Star TV (S5233T) has been launched in Southeast Asia and if Samsung plans we’ll see the phone in India too.

Telegent Systems is providing the analog mobile TV receiver while Samsung has brushed up the UI to provide rich graphical controls. A user can flick the screen to switch channels, one-click screen capture and record, on-screen keypad channel entry and reception of incoming SMS messages with continuous TV viewing.

UPDATE: Here’s a post from our archives showing a 3.3-inch WQVGA 3D AMOLED screen, which suggests that the first report related to display could be true.

We’ve found few live pictures of Samsung’s AMOLED 3D (SCH-W960) and some specs too. The first picture and these originated from the same forum but surprisingly, there is some inconsistency in the reported features. The new features read 3.2-inch WVGA AMOLED screen, DNSe 2.0, DivX Player, dual DMB, 3MP camera and 3D Menu.

The first and the last part of the features are worth taking note. The previous reported screen was a 3.3-inch WQVGA AMOLED whereas the new one gets a bump in resolution but takes away 0.1-inch of display. The 3D Menu is another interesting part. We’re not sure but the ‘3D’ part in the phone could be the 3D-styled menu only and nothing else. To contradict this, if we go by Samsung’s recent press release, the translation related to AMOLED 3D comes to this:

3D stereoscopic video can be enjoyed with realistic 3D ahmolredeu [AMOLED]

So 3D or no 3D? We’re confused. Maybe we should wait for Samsung to officially unveil the details or someone with knowledge can help us out here. Nonetheless, check out two more pictures in the gallery.

Samsung’s 3D range of products is getting a move on. After their 3D TVs that went on sale recently, their first full HD 3D Blu-ray player can be bought from Amazon. It’s priced at $399.99 and apart from a classy design and a transparent disc cover, the player will allow users to enjoy 3D movies in full 1080p resolution. For movies that are not high definition, the BD player up converts them to full HD for better viewing.

Additionally, the player supports BD-Live, Internet@TV and features integrated Wi-Fi, 1GB internal memory, 1 USB and 1 HDMI port.

Most of us assumed that Samsung might launch an Omnia HD twin with powerful specs to run WP7S. However, Samsung has come out to clear the air by saying that this phone is not an Omnia HD lookalike but Omnia HD itself. Microsoft created it for the demo.

“The launch was from Microsoft, not Samsung, and they used the i8910HD to demo Windows 7. It’s not yet clear whether existing i8910HD users will be able to upgrade to Windows 7 as this demo was a one-off,” said a Samsung spokeperson.

The spokesperson seem skeptical about Omnia HD’s Windows affiliation and it does look that the chances of an Omnia HD-like device running WP7S look slim. I feel it’s a good thing since sticking another OS with the same phone design looks a bit lazy on Samsung’s part.

E60 is the only e-book reader currently that has been announced for US but Australians are bound to get three more e-book readers in addition to E60. Philip Newton, director of Samsung Australia’s IT business confirmed to APC that Samsung is planning to release all four e-book readers in the Australian market in the second half of this year.

The readers are not new as they were showcased at the CES this year but we finally know the model numbers and some features of the same. The E50 (pictured above) will be a 5-inch entry-level model priced at AU$299.

The E65 (below) is the same as E60 but drops the sliding navigation pad to add a QWERTY keyboard. Finally, the E100 will be a 10-inch reader (825×1200 pixels) with practically the same features of rest of the readers.
